To the editor:

In reference to Susan Wood’s article, front page, Feb. 2, “Ashcroft gets mixed vote from Senate,” I can understand why a man of integrity would threaten the honorable Feinstein and Boxer. If they found themselves in a position where they needed to pardon a most-wanted criminal for financial gain, an honest public servant might pose a problem. Their previous incompetent leadership has left their constituents literally in the dark, and lest we forget the compassion of the former attorney general, who they both voted for, condoned the gas attack on children after being informed there were no gas masks for them located in the compound.

The lead on the article should have read, “Ashcroft confirmed despite inept politicians.”
