Letter (Bob Allen): Bear trap at Kahle Community Center

For over a week, NDOW has positioned a bear trap at Kahle Community Center. At first it was located adjacent to the soccer fields next to the outdoor restrooms. They have since moved it right behind the center. Bear traps are baited with marshmallows, pies, etc., whatever will attract a bear.

So, NDOW is trying to lure a bear to the same place our children play and families gather. Theses traps are unattended and open 24/7, ready to have the very heavy door slam shut when a bear, child or family pet gets curious and enters the trap. Children play all around Kahle; that’s what the center is there for and unintended consequences are part of life.

So, think of all the possibilities then go look for yourself, it’s a chilling sight. What is NDOW thinking?
