Letter: City of South Lake Tahoe awards contract for rec complex renovation

Hello Ms. Mlynsky, I received your letter and see it published in the Tribune.

We completely agree with most of your comments and are aware of the challenges of the aging facility and state of disrepair we are facing. Just last week the City secured a contract with a design firm to begin the process of creating six design alternatives for a new and improved recreation/community center. There will be several public meetings in the next nine months or so for you and others to participate in the design.

One thought that came up in previous public meetings regarding the rec center is that maybe having a weight room is not feasible considering corporate fitness centers offering such tremendous membership packages. Clearly, your input on keeping a weight room as part of the final plan is critical if you feel strongly that the City should continue to provide that amenity considering market competition.

In regards to the bench with the missing screws, I had the bench immediately repaired once I became aware of the problem. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.

Finally, thank you for recognizing the positive staff because that is one thing we do have control over all the time; it is delivering outstanding customer service. I will let them know they are doing a great job.

Please feel welcome to stop in my office anytime to let me know of any other safety concerns that arise. Thank you for your patronage over the years. We know there are many other facilities for you to choose from so thank you for choosing the recreation and swim complex.
