Letter — Don’t put juvenile hall near my school

Tribune

In the newspaper it said that you want to put a juvenile hall in the woodsy area owned by the school district next to the police station. I think that is a bad idea. There are three reasons I think that.

One, there are two schools right next to it, the South Tahoe Middle School and Al Tahoe Elementary School. The elementary school and middle school both do field trips and things for classes in this area –for example, the middle school goes cross country skiing.

Second, people live in the area. Do they really want their children to live and play where other children are being disciplined? I know I wouldn’t.

Last, animals live there. It’s a nice relaxing place to walk your pet or bike ride through. It’s also one of the little woodsy areas which is one thing I think Tahoe is great for. When you think about it, not very many places have areas like that in the middle of a town.

Those are the reasons that I think it would be a bad idea to put a juvenile hall there. I think the corner between Johnson and Al Tahoe Boulevard would be a better place to put a juvenile hall because it’s closer to the courthouse. Also, it’s farther away from the schools and local homes.
