Letter — Give credit to Dorothy Farnon

As some of the longtime members of the cast of Ebenezer Scrooge, we were dismayed to read your article “Brian Farnon Brings Scrooge Character To Life” in the Dec. 17 Tahoe Daily Tribune.

Not to diminish the talent and personable spirit of Brian Farnon in any way, we feel it needs to be stated more emphatically in print that there are two driving forces behind the 22 year success of this beloved Tahoe show.

It was due to Dorothy Farnon’s insistence and persistence that this holiday tradition came to life. It is her banter and ad-libbing with Brian that keeps people coming back year after year. It’s her understanding of what children and local performers can do when the bar is raised so that nothing less than “great” is the standard. Her lyrics are beautiful and her choreography matches the music beats, note for note.

Although Brian is the star, this show has been years in the making. From Dorothy writing “Christmasland” on the beach in Malibu to the stage at Harrah’s, it’s been a brilliant collaboration surviving even their divorce.

Please give credit where credit is due. Brian and Dorothy Farnon have produced a show which could play on Broadway. We’re proud to have been members of such a production.
