Letter: Gochnauer is a good man

To the editor:

Looks to me like the federal authorities went to a whole lot of trouble to induce otherwise law-abiding citizens to get involved in an illegal scheme. They manufactured a crime. They targeted people who had shown no predisposition to be involved in illegal activity and aggressively set out to ensnare them. They waved a bunch of money around.

They caught Pembroke Gochnauer at a particularly vulnerable time. He had been experiencing significant health and financial problems. It’s too bad. Pem’s a good man. He served our community well for more than 20 years.

Pem made some bad decisions. He will take his punishment. But the support and affection of those who know Pembroke and his fine family will continue, unwavering, long after this unfortunate episode is forgotten.
