Letter (Greg Ripke): Rec center should be funded by South Lake Tahoe locals

Money for a new recreation South Lake Tahoe facility is a great idea.

The only problem is that permanent residents in South Lake Tahoe will use this new facility and they are the ones who should pay for it.

Why not a boost in the local sales tax?

Whoever planned on how to pay for this used an effective method. Use the resentment long-term residents feel against irresponsible vacation homeowners and make them pay.

Because of this I predict the measure will pass.

The primary issue with me is that I am one of the many responsible property owners. My vacation condo is in a closed complex and my renters are notified they will be responsible for any noise complaints. “No parties” is in the rental agreement my guests sign.

Secondary is the fact that I still maintain another “tax on top of a tax” is illegal. Is that not in the U.S. constitution?

Looks like all responsible vacation homeowners are due to get “P’d on” again.
