Letter: Grieving for Orlando

Leaders and members of Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church grieve with the families and friends of those killed or injured in the horrible carnage in Orlando, Florida. We, as a congregation, pray that such a tragedy never happens anywhere again. But then, in the aftermath of this tragic event, we learn of a sermon that is in itself as vile as the killing in Orlando. The sermon, given by a “Christian” pastor from the pulpit of his church in the Sacramento area, professes a wish that the killing continue until all gays and lesbians are removed from the face of the earth. Such hatred is beyond belief. It is what sparks the atrocities we pray never again to witness. To speak it in the name of Jesus is absolutely unfathomable. This is not what Jesus Christ proclaims. He taught us to be accepting of human differences, with love for all God’s creation. In our church mission statement we invite people to join with us in worship and fellowship regardless of where each is in their journey through life.

Love without judgment will win over hatred and fear.
