Letter — Home schools are important

Parents who home school their children by creating private schools are not circumventing, stretching, or breaking the law, regardless of the opinions of Delaine Eastin and the California Department of Education. The law is very clear regarding private schools, and the Legislature’s intention to accommodate homeschoolers has been reiterated in more recent laws.

This is about power and control, in addition to money. The state wants to indoctrinate our children, and some people just can’t stand the thought of a few kids slipping through their fingers. Of course, there are many children in non-home schooling private schools that the State doesn’t control, but home-schoolers are easy targets.

Even if you don’t home school, you probably know someone who does. There haven’t always been schools, but there have always been families rearing and teaching children. California would be hurting families if it took away their freedom to home school.
