Letter — I call ’em local, you say kooks

Not long ago, you printed a letter from a man who claims locals are kooks, and why he says so. He also says labels are lame.

But, what’s in a label? I’ve lived in South Lake Tahoe for shortly over seven years and I’m proud to say I’m a local. I grew up in California, and I’m proud to tell people that. I’ve also lived my entire life in America, and I’m quite proud to be an American. I’m a woman, and proud of it. I’ll be 50 later this year, and when I turn 50, I’ll consider myself to be 50 and nifty.

Not all locals drive cars. There are those of us who, like me, use public transit. I’ve used public transit in cities like San Francisco, Monterey, and Sacramento, before moving here to South Lake Tahoe. I enjoy it.

I have several good friends who have lived here in South Lake Tahoe longer than I have, and longer than the man who wrote that letter has, and personally, I wouldn’t call them kooks. I’d call them friends, and I’d call them locals.

I’d like to suggest that the man who wrote that letter take a good long look at himself in the mirror. Perhaps he’ll see the reflection of a man who lives in South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County, Calif., USA. If he doesn’t, I feel quite sorry for him.
