Letter –Lament of an independent voter

According to the administration, we will, in the future, dissuade potential adversaries from pursuing a military build-up in hopes of surpassing or equaling the power of the United States.

Last Summer, before his own party leaders and public opinion in the country forced him to change his approach, the president indicated he would attack Iraq without consent of Congress, backing of the U.N. or forming a coalition. Thus, in his and his cohorts minds, “dissuade” means the United States now may launch a preemptive attack on any state deemed, by the president, a possible threat to us either now or in the future.

This renouncement of long established national principles coupled with his sick obsession with Iraq leads one to wonder in just what direction are Bush and the Republican Party heading? If one looks at the governance of the nation since the last election, the conclusion must be not only is this party and administration willing to pervert the ideals of the founding fathers but also to subvert the well-being of the common citizen to the interests of big business, the old boy network and extreme right wing ideas.

A scrutiny of the record shows that one should vote Republican if one wishes to promote war, desecrate the Constitution, overpopulate the Earth, destroy family planning, corrupt the environment, bankrupt a utility, abet warped CEO’s, tax the poor and enrich the rich and then retire (if you are lucky) at age 85.

The independent voter’s choices are being drastically narrowed.
