Letter — Laws needed to protect bears

I was away over the holidays and this is my first chance to write. I am sickened to know that a mother bear and her two young cubs were gunned down in an area close to my home, simply because someone left food in a cabin. There was no threat to human life, only destruction of some property. Isn’t that what insurance is for? When people choose to live so close to nature, they need to live responsibly with the wildlife, who, after all, were here first. We sorely need some laws which will prevent such wanton slaughter of the animals with whom we share our beautiful environment.
