Letter — Let’s put an end to bug-eyed terror

I read with great interest the letter lamenting the brutal murder of his neighbor, Sally. I too feel the need to make known the annual slaughter of our gilled brethren who can’t even escape the anglers grasp beneath frozen lakes thanks to gasoline powered augers and snowmobiles.

The letter writer is right. Should we excuse tricking placid creatures into taking a free meal only to have their sensitive lips pierced by razor sharp hooks? I say NO!

Your sensitivity encourages me that there is hope to stop this subaquatic carnage where torture is commonplace by young and old alike. Are sensitive bruins to be afforded more consideration simply because they are “cuddly” and made into Disney characters? Sure, you can’t cuddle a carp without having him gasp in bug-eyed terror, but does that mean we should KILL him?

I say NO! You keep on with your citizen awareness for our cute furry neighbors and I will support our seemingly lesser, harder to cuddle neighbors. Deal?
