Letter — Losing affordable housing is a shame

I am frightened by the idea that Falcon Capital, a Los Angeles development company, can come to Lake Tahoe and get the TRPA to consider changing its environmental policies. They are conning somebody, and using the noble words, “affordable housing,” to set a very dangerous precedent.

We had a fabulous place for affordable housing on Kahle Avenue. Employees could walk safely to work, on sidewalks, with signals. More importantly, their kids had a beautiful meadow to play in, and they could walk to the lake. The unit was in shambles, but when it was torn down, instead of being rebuilt as a newer, nicer affordable housing unit, it was saved for a big, money-making project. I don’t believe the public in Tahoe is so stupid as to fall for any of this. Affordable housing belongs where there are sidewalks, signals, and a place for kids to play. Kahle is the place, and zoning should never be changed.
