Letter — Missed opportunity at bike path

Why are residents of the basin frustrated with TRPA ?E

Here’s one example: Has anyone else noticed that the erosion control project on Highway 50 near the airport seems to be lacking a bike path?EThe section between Meyers and the “Y” has the potential to be a major artery for bike traffic, yet due to high traffic flow, a 50 mph speed limit and the lack of a safe bike lane, it is a scary bike ride at best.

If the TRPA is truly concerned with reducing vehicle miles traveled and promoting alternative forms of transportation, then it seems like an opportunity lost that a bike path is not being incorporated into the inital construction.

I’m sure five years from now, someone at TRPA will wake upEwith the brilliant idea to put a bike path in this area. So after numerous expensive studies, and more disruptive road construction we can expect to have the current project redesigned to include a path, that could easily be included now.
