Letter: ‘Officials who cannot stand the heat should step aside’

In 1941 FDR enunciated the four freedoms of religion — from fear, from want and freedom of speech.

On April 5, the city council chipped away on freedom by stating the city would no longer on TV broadcast the public comments. The announcement was not on the agenda. Mayor Wendy David made the announcement. It was a surprise. The public does not know who made the decision or why. It appears that it is an attempt to shield from public view criticism of the council and city manager, who no doubt have thin skins and cannot handle the heat. But the “decision” only increases more deserved criticism.

I believe the four freedoms are the cornerstones of our republic. But sometimes petty tyrants attempt to steal our rights and liberty. They remind us that freedom is a hard bought thing, never easy. And officials who cannot stand the heat should step aside, should resign.

When political ambition

trumps common decency

around the corner lurks

petty tyranny.
