Letter — O’Reilly is right about Eminem

Thank you Bill O’Reilly for your bold and truthful commentary regarding Marshall Mathers II, aka Eminen. I couldn’t agree with you more.

Music has a huge influence on our society and the importance of screening the lyrics and throwing out if necessary, the music our children listen to is vital. The impact that lyrics have on our children cannot be ignored. For over 20 years now, James Dobson, founder and president of “Focus on the Family” has addressed the same issue you did in your article. We have become shell-shocked, desensitized as Dobson puts it. And it doesn’t end with music. It’s in the movies and electronic games we allow our children to use as “entertainment”. Disgusting, vulgar, degrading, and violent lyrics are now acceptable and normal. We have become lazy in our parenting by not helping our children to make healthy choices regarding the type of music they listen to. It’s sad and unfortunate that his upbringing and childhood were so horrible, but what gives him the right to take that out on our children?

What he should be doing is spending time in counseling so that he can heal and forgive his mother. It would change his life forever.
