Letter — Proactive Pete for the council

Here are questions the voters of South Lake Tahoe need to ask.

Why is Measure Z necessary? Didn’t the City Council proclaim they had a plan in 1996 for the next century? Remember D2000? Why did it take Dave Childs, newly arrived city manager, to point out our budget crisis? Why has the council masked the problem by borrowing from the Public Employees Retirement Fund? When the problem was illuminated, why did the Council reject Mr. Child’s proposal or why did they not propose their own solution? why did private citizens and organizations have to craft Measure Z?

One incumbent, Hal Cole is now supporting Measure Z. Why didn’t he use his eight years of experience and propose it in the first place?

I hope the voters will get answers and make their votes count. There are other candidate choices. Pete Mac Roberts is a proven leader and listener, not afraid to make decisions for the right reasons. He led the struggle for Measure S, ball fields, bike trails and the ice rink. He helped craft Measure Z, buying time to solve our financial shortfalls. Finally, Pete will proactively confront our problems and plan for our future, not merely react daily to city difficulties.
