Letter — Report animal cruelty

A funny thing happened while recently walking my dog. We were out in the woods, near the river, close to the 6th hole of the golf course, when I noticed a 3-month-old yellow lab mix puppy tied to a bunch of bushes by his blue leash. Thinking that perhaps the owner was nearby, I untied him and looked around. My friend, who was walking with us came up and gasped. She had seen this dog 3.5 hours prior.

Apparently, a light blue Subaru wagon, with a dark haired woman and her apparent teen son (thin build, short dark wavy hair) were trying to push the puppy out of the car near the gate at the intersection of Country Club and Bakersfield. My friend was driving down Country Club Drive at the time and stopped, thinking the boy was kicking the dog from getting back into the car. Once eye contact was made, the boy wrestled the dog, hooked him by his blue collar to this blue leash and walked him down the path toward the river. At that time, my friend continued on home.

Now, we were fuming. How could someone dump a puppy in the woods, tied to a bunch of bushes as coyote bait. What is the humane society for? How about animal rescue groups? How about taking responsibility for your actions and choices? I’m sorry, I nearly forgot that we live in a throw away society. One that has forgotten compassion, responsibility, loyalty.

A crime report was filed with the El Dorado Sheriff’s Department. If anyone recognizes the puppy or the perpetrators, please call the Sheriff’s Department or Secret Witness. After all, who knows how these people treat their children.
