Letter — Republicans and religion

The Letter to the Editor on Dec. 4, 2002 and titled “Rotten and Needing a Bath,” makes you wonder how her mind works. She quotes six words from Pythagoras, who lived in the sixth century B.C. and pretends to know what they mean. Her main complaint seems to be that some atheist person convinced the 9th circuit court to declare the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional when the words “under God” was inserted during the Eisenhower administration. She fails to accept the wording of the First Amendment which provides for complete separation of church and state. The Pledge of Allegiance in its original form could apply to any country and any religion without embracing any religion. You have the right to believe anything you want to but you have no right to impose your belief on anyone else. She used the word rotten again at the end of her letter referred to a political party. I assume she means the Republican party since all GOP Presidents since Eisenhower have tried to impose, to some extent, their religious beliefs on the country. Remember they all took an oath to uphold and protect the constitution. Our president at this moment had done this several times. He even believes our rights are derived from God.
