Letter: Response to Jim Clark column, ‘On Politics’
I have to take offense to a column written by Jim Clark that was written on his very own, “On Politics” platform, on Dec. 16 — a platform that the Tahoe Daily Tribune gives Jim every month or so. Like many Republican voters, Jim is dead set against Obamacare. You see, people like Jim and the Republican Party in general would much rather have their tax dollars spent on a shinny, brand new navel war toy than on the actual people in this country. And the reason for that is there is no profit in helping citizens of America. Jim probably thinks I am a freeloader or a welfare abuser. At 60 years old, I never have been either. I am simply self-employed. And like millions of self-employed people across our nation, the only health insurance I could afford for 40 years was no health insurance at all. Why? Because if you are not part of a large group health insurance plan in this country, the monthly premium will always be sky high and way out of the reach for me and millions of other people. Before Obamacare, millions of American citizens like myself could only dream of having health insurance. They now have it. I suppose Jim will try and spin that as a failure. Is Obamacare perfect? Of course not … it needed to be watered down to a complete and utter compromise just to get voted past greedy politicians whose pockets are greased by the “insurance for profit” industry. But as imperfect as it is … when you are drowning and someone throws you a inflatable raft … only a idiot complains that is wasn’t a yacht.
