Letter — Smoke preferred over wildfires

Give Me A Break. I am very tired of all the bashing the Forest Service has received about the smoke from the prescribed burns. The smoke came from slash piles, the slash piles came from work done to clean up the forest (maybe, even in your back yard) to help protect the forest and neighborhoods. All of this work is long over due and the current Forest Supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Management Unit Maribeth Gustafson, should be commended for Getting A Much Needed Job Done.

One writer suggested hauling the slash out of the basin. Would that person like to be the first to step up to the plate for the transportation bill? Much of the slash has been chipped but that is also very expensive.

I would much rather put up with a few days of that kind of smoke rather than that of the Showers fire or the gondola fire. Most of that smoke went east to the Carson Valley. We were lucky. So, to all of you who have had a problem with this much needed work, please take time to consider, all the benefits, for all of us.

Life is not perfect, not even at Tahoe, so next time there is smoke, go shopping in the Sacramento Valley and perhaps then you will have a greater appreciation for the air quality in Tahoe.
