Letter: Tahoe’s wildlife

Living in Lake Tahoe is absolutely amazing — you see wildlife everywhere you go! You can’t say that about the big cities, but you can definitely say that about our beautiful area.

Why, just the other day, I saw a raccoon foraging for food as I drove by. It’s always a treat to see a raccoon, and the coyotes and bears always make an interesting sight, too. But what I personally like to watch the most in Tahoe are the birds! Especially the Steller’s Jays, blackbirds and doves (which are all abundant) and the hawks, ravens and geese. I’ve seen a lot of ravens and geese so far this year and a few hawks, including red-tails and sharp shinned hawks. Beautiful birds!

Let’s not forget the squirrels though; there are lots of gray squirrels around this year with big bushy tails, which I’ve heard means a heavy winter, as they need them to curl up and keep warm.

Tahoe, keep rockin’ to the wildlife!
