Letter: Time to hold owner of sunken sail boat accountable (opinion)

TRPA, South Lake Tahoe City Council, U.S. Coast Guard

The sunken sail boat with just the mast partially above water is still there. It sank in January. If it was a car abandoned along the highway it would have been removed, impounded and sold long ago to pay the expenses of removal.

So how does this sailboat, a gross pollutant, hazard to navigation and all round BAD IMAGE FOR SOUTH LAKE TAHOE get to remain? Why is the owner not being held accountable?

Lake clarity is up 10 feet this year and that’s a good thing, but it won’t stay that way if everybody is allowed to let their boat sink without consequences.

The highway patrol is responsible for maintaining our roads, so who is responsible for maintaining our waterway? It’s time remove the boat and make the owner responsible.
