Letter to the Editor: A reminder to drive carefully

It has been more than three years since the tragic accident on Highway 50, where the reckless driving of one teen ended in tragedy by taking the life of a wonderful young man.

I just want to remind the community of the dangers of driving. Cars are not toys – they are deadly weapons. So please choose to drive safely.

When your children get into cars with other young drivers, please make sure the drivers are responsible and have had their license long enough. I urge you please put on your seat belt and remind everyone in your car to do so. Seat belts save lives.

Don’t drive like a maniac or treat driving like a game because lives are at risk. Don’t drink and drive, period. Car accidents are one of those lessons that you think, “It won’t happen to me,” until it does. Don’t learn the lesson the hard way. Just remember seat belts save lives, and reckless drivers take them. We love you Greg Smith. You are always in our hearts.
