Letter to the Editor: Development story left out details

Jean Haymes
Villa Tahoe Condominium owner

The article in Saturday’s paper did not cover all the issues of the adjoining properties to the newly approved housing project planned for the intersection of Ski Run Boulevard and Pioneer Trail, namely the Aspens at South Lake Tahoe.

In addition to the issues of the project sharing a driveway with the fire department and insufficient parking, we are concerned that the project is too densely populated for the property size, water run-off to the lower neighboring properties, sewer usage to an aging system prone to back-ups, existing well water impurities, and fear that the project will turn into a big hole similar to the one we endure at Stateline.

Sure, we are concerned about losing our beautiful meadow views, our peaceful pines and aspens, our visits by the large endangered frog population, bears and coyote and gaining views of two and three story buildings built as close to our homes as the Pacific West Co. could possibly manage. We recognize that pure, untouched land surrounding the lake area is a commodity, not necessarily a resource, and that our views are neither.
