Letter to the Editor: Do It Yourself Center not right

Our city leaders have approved a business that is predictable to fail over the protest of the local residents in attendance. The so called Do It Yourself Center, which has had its inventory reduced to high-priced lawn furniture and major appliance in order to avoid being a hardware store, was approved. In a town of 23,000, where the major appliance dealer is the Recycler, it’s hard to see how they can survive.

The vote was 3 to 2, both Lovell and Cole’s vote were predictable based on their relationship with Do-It centers attorney Lew Feldman. Feldman is the source of major political contributions for the pair and of course the negative vote of Crawford was like wise expected, he opposes everything. What was truly shocking was mayor Jerry Birdwell’s vote for the project – he made it clear that his support was based on the avoidance of a threatened law suit.
