Letter to the editor- Fruit Loops for our yards

To the editor:

Now let me see if I’ve got this straight.

In the late ’70s our congressional representatives stood before Congress and said, “We need to establish the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency because the consignment shop has metal storage containers on their property, Tahoe businesses are cluttering U.S. Highway 50 with portable signs, and the kids are running amok with their toy remote cars.” And Congress was so moved by these dire threats to the lake that they did establish the TRPA.

Didn’t I read some time ago that these same people want me to put plastic pebbles in my drainage ditches instead of rocks? What’s next, Fruit Loops? Please say it ain’t so.

I have been led to believe the TRPA was established to provide long-range planning for the Tahoe Basin. Why are they involved in these insignificant tempests in a teapot?

Two things are obvious here.

One is that these people have way too much time on their hands.

Two is that this self-perpetuating, self-promoting bureaucracy has far outlived its usefulness and should be sent off to that big bureaucracy in the sky.

With operations like this, is it little wonder our federal government is six trillion dollars in the hole?

Bob Burbank

P.S. Go Bob Boone!
