Letter to the Editor: More of Tahoe should be available year-round

Tahoe has so much to offer the world because of its environmental beauty — clean air, water and silence — which is a gift from nature. So why not make this an issue for the whole year instead of having a split time table?

I believe if we made some of our walkways and cycle paths available year-round and provide portable toilets, we would increase the revenue and take our infrastructure to a new level while also allowing the beauty of Tahoe to be enjoyed by a bigger group of visitors. My wife and I have lived in Tahoe for nine years and have found out you can’t explain it to anybody unless they come for a visit, which means we have to do a better job in explaining what we have to offer. When you shut down part of our beauty for the winter, that does not make sense when it comes to our economy. By the way, you only have to witness the traffic jams on Emerald Bay Road in the summer to understand where I am coming from by seeing the number of people who want to see all of Tahoe’s beauty. Why just having skiing and snowshoeing in winter?
