Letter to the editor- Nix land swap on 15th street

This is in regard to the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association and Tahoe Conservancy proposed land exchange regarding the property on 15th Street between Eloise and Venice.

The area in question is a pristine piece of land owned/managed by the Tahoe Conservancy. I think it would be extremely harmful and detrimental to the area to trade/sell this property to anyone and have this property used or developed in any way. There is so little untouched land left in the Tahoe Basin; once it is disturbed it will never be the same. I believe that it is our responsibility as citizens and as a community to try to restore and conserve our land to be enjoyed in its natural state.

I believe that at this time the Tahoe Conservancy should designate this land as a natural habitat to be preserved for all time, and not now or anytime will this land be for sale or trade for any reason. This land should have the same protective umbrella as national forest land.

It is so easy to cut trees and develop; however, once this is done, the damage cannot be repaired. We owe it to ourselves and the future generations to restore and protect our forests. Please act with caution and do not make irreparable mistakes.
