Letter to the Editor: Opinion: A climate group for everyone
A climate group for everyone
Hey! I went to a really interesting non-partisan meeting the other night dealing with climate change. I know from getting National Geographic magazine that they have been reporting on climate change for many years. Al Gore wrote about it in “An Inconvenient Truth.” More and more documentaries are coming out about the effects climate change is having on the earth and our economy. Most importantly I have been learning about man’s role in accelerating this process through the burning of fossil fuels. I can see, for myself, from various graphs, the huge rise in CO2 concentration since the Industrial Revolution. I learned when there’s more CO2 in the atmosphere, the temperature increases because more heat from the sun is trapped inside our atmosphere. Graphs, going back thousands of years, show this correlation between temperature warming and CO2 levels rising. It’s unfair of us to leave the Earth in such a shambles for our children and grandchildren, especially since we still have time to fix it! That’s why I think the Carbon Fee and Dividend legislation proposed by the Citizens’ Climate Lobby gives us a solution to some of these issues. We have to start somewhere, seriously addressing the problems. This sounds like a good place to start! Our CCL chapter meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the LTCC cafeteria. (Website: citizensclimatelobby.org. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org.) I, for one, am going to learn more about it.
