Letter to the Editor: Parking needs to be addressed

This letter is in regards to the horrible parking situation El Dorado County has caused by moving dozens of its employees from Social Services Silver Dollar building to the El Dorado Center.

First off, the El Dorado Center has approximately 54 parking spaces and two handicap spots. This is barely enough for the original staff of employees and the public who use the county services and our dental office. Supposedly for economic reasons, the county decided to move its Social Services department out of the Silver Dollar building and into the El Dorado Center. This is another 30 or more employees plus over a dozen county cars. With all of this comes the hundreds of people applying for public assistance.

Now where are all these people expected to park? And now that the snow has fallen, there is even less parking available! People are parking all over the place from Safeway to Bank of America and the DMV. This is unacceptable! I’m sure these businesses don’t appreciate it either!

If this was a private individual trying to get a permit to open up a business, he would be denied due to insufficient parking. Guess the county doesn’t have to follow the same rules!
