Letter to the editor- Sheriff, not office, exposed

An article appeared in a recent Mountain Democrat, titled, “Sheriff’s Dept. chided by county grand jury.” In fact, it was the Sheriff (Hal Barker) who was chided – not the department. In any case, I’d like to thank the grand jury for exposing “several” of the disappointing practices of our current sheriff.

Obviously, we should all be concerned by these abuses of power and not fail to end this nonsense during next year’s elections. Cynically, I’d like to thank Hal Barker for utilizing his self-touted and much ballyhooed expertise in management, educational accomplishments, military background and past/current political apointments for destroying the morale of his personnel, not to mention the near destruction of the department’s reputation.

Four years of his administration is enough!

It’s been a miserable failure and embarrassment to our department.

Howard Wilson, Capt. EDSO (Ret.)

Placerville
