Letter to the editor- Three cheers for Linear Park

To the Editor:

Those who turned out for the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s event at the Linear Park June 9th gained a new appreciation for what has been a largely unheralded city achievement. The park, which runs along the lake side of Highway 50 from McDonalds to the end of Pioneer Trail, is planted not with water-wasting sod and flower beds but with hardy native grasses, shrubs, and trees that don’t require fertilizers.

It may still look a bit scraggly from the highway, but a walk along its length will reward the careful observer with an understanding of what has been done and what will evolve in time.

Councilmember Tom Davis, city planner Gary Marchio, and botanist Julie Etra, three who had much to do with the development of the park, were present and deserve our appreciation for their good work.
