Letter to the editor- We need the tourists

Norma Young
South Lake Tahoe

To the editor,

To the mostly Great Folks of Tahoe, It seems colossally contradictory to read an article about the shortfall of the income to the area which is obviously caused by fewer visitors to Lake Tahoe and at the same time find out that people are up in arms about “noisy vacationers”. Why the heck did we spend hugh amounts of money on the development of the gondolas and surrounding facilities? To run off tourists?? Unless the property owners here are willing to pay exorbitant taxes and spend a lot more money in the local businesses, they had better put out the RED CARPET to as many vacationers as we can possibly attract. Get real people! You can’t have it both ways. And for heavens sake don’t use Big Bear as a measuring stick…I was there in 1995-1996 and that year 44 business closed their doors due to lack of “noisy vacationers”. We should overlook minor situations as much as possible, using ‘friendly persuasion’ from neighbors and police. I know what, maybe a few more locals should take the class at LTCC on how to treat these “vacationers” so they will leave happy and come back soon!
