Letter — Veteran’s view
I wanted to have my say.
I served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years (1970-1991). Vietnam was a year of heat, rain, bugs, snakes and people shooting at you.
You did not like it, but you did it. When a person serves in our military, they do it 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. They go when and where they are sent, for not a lot of pay. In the Guard or Reserves, you collect that check every month and know that you could be called up to do your duty.
We have been used to a peace time military in the past, but times have changed and people need to realize it. What we do not need is to see people on TV saying that this is not what they signed up for. No one wants to go to war, but sometimes it comes and then you must do your duty and bare it the best you can.
I support our troops and wish them a safe trip home. I do not support the “Warlords” in our government that send our troops to every “snake pit” in the world. We are not the world’s police and we should not try to be. We should be a team player with the United Nations, because that is what they are for.
