Letter — VFW invites veterans to join
March 21, 2003
Attention all South Lake Tahoe veterans: The Veterans of Foreign War Post 2627 would like to extend an invitation to join us. While not all veterans are eligible to join the VFW, we can determine very quickly anyone’s eligibility by comparing their documented service to the list of basic requirements for VFW membership.
The VFW’s main goal is to help veterans and their families. Our post is very active in the community and we are able to help local veterans get appointments at the VA hospital in Reno, obtain assistance from the El Dorado County veterans representative, gain admittance to the veterans home in Yountville and any other service offered to veterans. Our members also volunteer to drive the bus to the VA hospital in Reno three days a week.
We have a diverse group of veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf War. We welcome veterans from all periods.
We have several functions a year, fund-raisers and social functions. We meet once a month on the third Friday at 7 p.m. at the American Legion building on Highway 50.
Post 2627 members are supportive of one another and we all share the work load as our time permits. We exchange information at our monthly meetings that is of mutual benefit to all of us.
The VFW offers reduced membership rates for members who elect to sign up as Life Members.
