Letter: ‘We are moving down the road towards communism’

The City Council of South Lake Tahoe must be congratulated on its ability to give other people’s money away. What a great job they are doing in preserving low-cost housing by not allowing vacation rentals in multiple-family properties! In spite of compassionate testimony by current vacation homeowners with multi-family properties, the council went ahead and told those people they were out of business, even though many have already invested thousands of dollars and much time and effort in making their multi-family properties attractive to the neighborhood. If the city feels that more multi-family properties as long-term rental properties are needed, why don’t they provide any incentives or zoning to attract investors into making such an investment? Many years ago, a low-cost housing project was completed on Lake Tahoe Boulevard just east of the high school and has been a benefit to the community ever since.

Why should individual property owners be called upon to sacrifice their properties in order to fulfill the whim of the four rulers of city council — Hal Cole, JoAnn Conner, Wendy David and Austin Sass?

We are moving down the road towards communism with these “wise do-gooders.”

Voters, please remember their names come election time.
