Letter — We learned — so should you

On Nov. 26 about 2 p.m. our gas meter was accidentally hit by a friend’s car. The meter broke and fumes came rushing out. We were in big trouble. Time was of the essence.

This is not something that one is totally prepared for. We learned a lot. One thing was people are more important then things.

We called 911 – Quickly got everyone out of the house. The neighbors were alerted and also got out of their homes and out of harms way.

The fire department, paramedics, police were on the scene within 10 minutes. they took charge and they were very efficient and caring.

The Avista crew arrived, knew their job and took the situation under control in a very short time. They were great.

My husband and I want to say thank you all for the caring way you handled our emergency.

As for the reporter from the Tahoe Tribune the article that appeared on the front page was very insensitive. My friend was embarrassed. The remarks you wrote about my husband and I were incorrect. My neighbor’s soup was a bigger issue than the fact that she really cared about our safety and came to help.

Next time you cover an emergency, I would encourage you to look at the facts and help people to learn about what to do when disaster strikes.
