"Locals" searching for identity

“Locals” are kooks. I have lived here 10 years and believe that anyone who uses the word “local” to describe themself is usually one or more of the following:

1. Not a skilled winter driver … though they think very highly of their slow and painful trudging.

2. Can’t survive in the woods for a day.

3. The same people who call themselves “expert” skiers or riders … and ride at Heavenly.

4. Looking for an identity.

5. Put “Keep Tahoe …” stickers all over their stuff.

6. Curse tourists and seasonals for bringing money up here.

7. Drive a Subaru wagon with hippie stickers all over it.

8. Think that they are healthy for eating leaves and twigs, but smoke and do drugs.

9. Care more about squirrels and bears than kids and morality.

10. Originally from L.A.

Labels are lame. People who label themselves are even lamer. Leave it on the bumper of your Subaru if it has one.
