I am running for City Council because this is my home, and for my wife Bev and myself, will be our home for the rest of our lives. After 35 years we still love the fresh air, clean water, mountains, lakes, and forests. I would like to help protect all of this, avoid the mistakes of the past, and help move us into the future.
I have put two children through our school system and have volunteered on the Planning Commission, School Bond Oversight Committee, Pantry at St. Theresa and coaching LL. Locally, I have worked in the lodging, ski, tour, events, and gaming industries for over 15 years. I am fortunate to live the Tahoe lifestyle all-year round skiing, hiking, biking, and golfing.
Here is how I would like to serve you the voters.
The time needed to serve on council is considerable. As a retiree, I have that time & energy to listen & be will be well informed.
I am aligned with no business entity & will cast votes based on what’s best for our residents.
I am a proponent of improving our recreational facilities. It will improve the lifestyle of our residents and tourism dollars will follow. As a 35-year local & avid hiker, biker & skier, I want to help make fiscally smart recreational improvements.
The City has struggled to increase its revenue stream and city surveys have shown that we want improvements to our infrastructure & our preference is that tourists pay for these improvements. I have worked in the tourism and recreation industry as a manager for many years gaining valuable experience on how the tourist & tourism companies think. I would like to use that expertise for our city’s advantage.
I believe the city needs to make vacation home rental code enforcement a priority. Aren’t we tired of people treating our neighborhoods like a fraternity house?
Much of the time spent on city council is running a business; the business of our city. With a budget of $72 million, I think it makes sense to have councilmen who have business and budget experience. I have overseen multi-million dollar budgets in my career and will use that knowledge to ensure our budget is fiscally conservative, spent wisely, used to preserve the environment, and deliver city services.
Here is what LakeTahoeNews said about me in their endorsement. “Sass does his homework as evidenced by his thorough responses to LTN’ questions and depth of answers at forums, he cares about the economy, he understands numbers and he is without question the candidate who recreates the most. This last fact is important as the area puts more of an emphasis on recreation.
Plus, he has worked for major players like Heavenly and Aramark. He is the candidate with the most big-business experience. We need that type of diversity on the council.”
Thank you for your consideration. I hope I’ve earned your vote and would love the opportunity to serve our community. Facebook/ElectAustinSass to learn more.
