This week, take a look around

Local Tahoe residents have a lot of grievances with their neighbors, with government, with the weather, with home prices, etc., but during this week – a true Lake Tahoe week – it’s easy to gain perspective on why we choose to call Lake Tahoe home.

The American Century Championship highlights the best of Tahoe. Our small corner of the universe plays host to the biggest names in entertainment and sports, because of one reason: Lake Tahoe is a marquee place to visit.

Those of us who live here already know it. Sure, we argue about development and schools and a sometimes flaky economy, but all it takes is one look around to know it is worth it. Many of us may differ on the details, but we are all here for the same reason.

Most people live in crowded cities, drive on crowded freeways to work in crowded offices. Like us, they pay too much to live in small houses, but we live next to Lake Tahoe. They live next to an international airport.

So take this weekend to enjoy the best of Tahoe, and go see the tournament. We can stand to learn from some of our celebrity friends who are visiting.
