Overnight closures planned for state highway in El Dorado County

Overnight closures on a section of California Route 193 on El Dorado County’s West Slope will start Monday, July 24.

The overnight closures will be from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 11 from the California Route 49 intersection in Placerville to Chili Bar, according to the California Department of Transportation. Emergency vehicles will be allowed to go through the closure and a detour will be provided.

The closures are needed to allow heavy equipment to rebuild a 500-foot section of the highway that was damaged during the winter storms. A new retaining wall already has been constructed to solidify the slope that gave way during the storms. The $2.9 million emergency contract is being constructed by Myers and Sons.

During the full closure, the detour at the intersection of Highways 49 and 193 in Placerville will be Highway 49 north to Marshall Road to Garden Valley Road to 193 south. The detour for the closure at Chili Bar on 193 will be 193 north to Garden Valley Road to Marshall Road to 49 south.
