Painting earns area artist prize

Markleeville artist Charles Muench received first place at the 2008 Heritage Art Exhibition in San Juan Capistrano for his painting “Eucalyptus Grove – Blackstar Canyon.”

Jean Stern, executive director of the Irvine Museum, awarded Muench’s painting first, which includes a prize of $5,000.

The show features work from nationally recognized artists inspired by the protected Irvine Ranch Conservancy and Irvine Ranch Natural Landmark Lands. Proceeds from the show benefit the Capistrano Valley Conservancy’s programs.
