South Tahoe blanked Incline 2-0 in its girls’ soccer league opener Thursday in Incline Village.

Senior Ali Palacios scored both goals for the Vikings. Palacios struck first in the fifth minute, beating her defender one-on-one, the slotting the ball into the lower corner of the net. Her second goal came off a breakaway in the 72nd minute.

Vikings’ coach Chris DeLeon said the tight game is something that will be prevalent in the reshaped 3A league.

“It’s going to be competitive,” he said. “There are no issues about that. These teams are pretty even. It’s going to be a good year. I don’t think we’ll see any blowouts by any means.”

Last weekend, the Vikings finished 2-1 in the Howell Memorial Tournament in Reno. South Tahoe defeated tournament host Galena in a penalty-kick shootout Saturday but lost out on a tiebreaker to determine which teams advanced to the semifinals.

The Vikings (3-1) play host to Whittell on Tuesday.
