The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation is inviting all graduates of South Tahoe High School from the past 50 years to a giant reunion. The event is scheduled the last weekend in June and festivities will include parties, dinners and golf as well as rides on the gondola and paddlewheel cruises.

People are encouraged to show their community spirit by participating in a parade that will take place June 29 along Highway 50 from South Tahoe High School to South Tahoe Middle School. Everyone is invited to enter the 50-year themed parade and there is no entry fee. All parade entrants must fill out a form and the deadline to register to participate is June 14. To register and for more information call (530) 544-8241.

The parade will depart from STHS at 9 a.m. and is estimated to pass the judging area on the grass in front of the Lake Tahoe Unified School District office around 10 a.m. A celebration and award ceremony will follow the parade at 10:30 a.m. at the STMS track. Included will be food booths and an alumni souvenir booth.

The parade will occupy only one lane of Highway 50 and traffic will be directed by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department Mounted Patrol and STHS Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps Color Guard and Drill Team.

The four parade marshals include one of the first teachers at STHS and three of the five original graduating class members, who will ride in classic 1953 cars. The alumni band will ride and play on a flatbed truck, and four floats, each representing the decades 1960, 1970, 1980 and 1990, will be featured. Elected Lake Tahoe Unified School District officials, both past and present, as well as elected city and county officials will ride in trolley cars.

Other entries that have registered for the parade are the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe Fighting Chance vehicle, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department D.A.R.E. vehicle and a float carrying former high school cheerleaders.
