Virginia people seem to have observed none of the ordinary rules for the prevention of smallpox and the disease is rapidly spreading. Two firemen were nearly suffocated a few days ago in Tunnel 6 as the new compound railway engines, called “battleships,” fill a tunnel to almost suffocation. Truckee Republican.

M.W. Young, mining man, announced through the Wells Herald he had made the discovery of a huge deposit of Beryl ore a short distance from Wells. Present market value of the scarce crystals is $200 a pound.

50 YEARS AGO

Scholarship awards, two of $500 each to Carson High School seniors John Lyden Hall and Marylee Mitchell, Josephine Beam Fund.

20 YEARS AGO

Observations by Chris Schaller, “Liquor Rebellion,” features Assemblywoman Peggy Westall who is proposing an amendment to require newspapers to publish pictures of all those convicted of drunk driving.

10 YEARS AGO

Over 70 Carson, Dayton and Douglas 4-H and FFA members showed off their sheep, beef and swine at the 52nd annual Area Junior Livestock Show at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.
