Peace rally planned by Tahoe residents

A Tahoe Rally for Peace will be conducted as part of a nation-wide effort from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at the El Dorado Beach grassy area along Highway 50.

Oct. 26 has been designated as a Nation Day for Peace Demonstrations by its organizer, International Answer. Hundreds of thousands of participants are expected to rally in Washington, D.C., New York City, San Francisco and other major cities within the United States as well as throughout the world.

Local West African drumming group Java Djembe will perform at the Tahoe Rally for Peace. An informational table will be available for people seeking resources beyond what can be found through major media.

“We are providing a gathering for the many people at Tahoe who are moved to stand together in support of peace,” said Hillary Dembroff, one of the local event organizers and a member of Java Djembe.

“We are encouraging signs, mutual respect and keeping walkways and bike paths clear,” Dembroff said.
