Pedestrian killed, driver flees

Christina Proctor

A 52-year-old man was killed Friday night behind Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, the apparent victim of a hit and run.

Investigators believe that Mickey Claude Cole came out of the forest and was walking across the loop road when he was hit. Around 7:10 p.m. two other drivers ran over Cole’s body. These drivers stopped and called 911.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department is acting as coroner on the case, but the traffic accident is being handled by Nevada Highway Patrol. Sheriff’s investigators said that they believe Cole was a transient. It appears that Cole was dead before the other drivers ran over his body, investigators said.

A witness reported seeing a vehicle stop and then leave the area earlier in the evening. On Monday, investigators were still searching for the vehicle. NHP was not available for comment.
