Perez withdraws bid for Sheriff

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Stan Perez, an El Dorado County resident who was exploring candidacy for the for El Dorado County Sheriff position announced he is out of the race on his Web site Friday.

“This was a very difficult decision given so many wonderful people encouraged and endorsed me, and supported my plans to significantly improve public safety in this county,” Perez wrote at “However, for both financial and personal reasons I must withdraw.”

Perez said that he and his family invested $51,000 into the campaign.

“It’s very expensive to run a campaign, especially with so many candidates in this race” Perez wrote. “And, the fundraising comes at a time when many are struggling to pay their bills and put food on the table.”

El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Neves announced his early retirement in November 2009. His position is on the ballot in June.
